So you could make the case that it's a huge step in bridging the gap between capitalism and socialism in America, but you could also argue that Obama's universal health care plan will help the medical system as we know it. (You could also argue that socialism isn't really that bad, I suppose, so long as we don't take it a step too far.)

"It is a model that rewards the quantity of care rather than the quality of care; that pushes you, the doctor, to see more and more patients even if you can't spend much time with each; and gives you every incentive to order that extra MRI or EKG, even if it's not truly necessary," Obama said. "It is a model that has taken the pursuit of medicine from a profession -- a calling -- to a business."

I have to admit, I like Obama's ideas about it. I like the idea of millions of people not having to worry about getting sick and if they can afford their medication, I like the idea of physicians not getting paid by how many tests they give--I like it. And if I could vote on it, I would definitely vote for it.

Reading articles like this doesn't sway me, either (I like the last question, where he practically quotes Obama on the quanitity versus quality issue, however). Paul seems to be making claims with little evidence behind it other than "there's no proof it will work," refusing to acknowledge that there's no proof Obama's plan won't crash and burn, either. On the other hand, sometimes I have to ask myself, is what Obama's offering too good to be true? And then I think about funding and realize that to some extent, the answer is yes.

Either taxes go up for high-income Americans, we tax someone else, or the government digs itself deeper into debt.

Someone has to pay for it, which is the big flaw in this plan. I'll be honest and say I still somewhat like the ideas he's offering, and maybe if I knew for sure who was paying for it I could support it more definitely. So what do you guys think? Is universal healthcare good or bad? Why?

[I'll admit, I'm not incredibly educated about universal health care. So if I said anything that seems off, feel free to correct me.]
